Alicia Shogry(Soos): Illustrator, Educator

Alicia has been an (Art) Educator since 2011. She currently works in Tolland, CT as a high school substitute, and as an independent artist/illustrator of nature/bird-inspired works and children's books. Previously, she worked in Pittsfield, MA as Art Teacher at both Reid Middle School and Crosby Elementary School, afterschool/summer art instructor and coordinating staff member with IS183 Art School of the Berkshires, painting instructor and party assistant for The Progressive Palette, and also docent/school group guide/admissions and store clerk for the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge.

In May 2011, Alicia graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology with her BFA in Illustration and a Creative Writing Minor. In May 2013, she graduated from Lesley University with an MEd in Community Arts, Visual Arts Concentration. Three years later in May 2016, Alicia earned her Preliminary MA Teaching Certification in Visual Arts: PreK-12th.

Through her studies and work as an art educator in both museum and classroom settings (respectively, at the Norman Rockwell Museum, IS183 Art School of the Berkshires in Stockbridge, MA, and Pittsfield Public Schools), Alicia has diverse experience using art as a communication and learning tool while working with students of all ages and learning styles. With Pittsfield Public Schools, she worked with and taught (for about 5 years) students ages K-8th. She has organized and carried out community arts projects such as The Norman Rockwell Photovoice Project (Norman Rockwell Museum, December 2011). She was a volunteer Teaching Institute T.A. for six weeks at IS183 (July-August 2012), then took on a full time staff member position as Coordinator of Membership and LTA (Learning Through Arts). Throughout the following years, she served various instructional and faculty roles at IS183. In summer 2019, her eagle-based illustrations were chosen for public painting project, and she carried out prepping and painting a utility box in Pittsfield, MA. Her background in education, community arts, and fine/visual arts has provided ample inspiration and fire for her passion to create her own children's books and online nature-inspired ETSY art shop. (See book projects in "Children's Books" section of this site, and the ETSY links below, among others.)
